we were about to go off the fiscal cliff until, dun, dun, dun, we got an 11th hour deal. actually, with the fiscal cliff we got kind of a 13th hour deal because technically they did go over the cliff and then after they fell they kind of reached back up and found a low-hanging branch that was hanging off 9 end of the cliff and they grabbed the branch and they were able to pull themselves back up over the cliff. they really do keep creating these cliffs and brinks and crises and then veering to safety right at the last minute, or right after the last minute in the case of the cliff. so understandably, we done panic as much anymore now when they tell us it is a new crisis. everybody just counts on them fixing it at the last minute somehow. can we count on them doing that again? the senate today voted on both a republican plan to not do this thing. that failed 38-62. then the senate voted on a democratic plan to not do this thing. and that one actually got a majority. it got 51 votes. but the republicans filibustered it. so that failed as well. in the house today john boehne

i've worked with the president on the fiscal cliff deal. i've worked with him on hurricane sandy relief. i'm working on him right now on the violence against women act. yet, we see absolutely no give on the other side in terms of how we are approaching issues like the sequester, like the continuing resolution, and like the debt ceiling crisis. all of which are in front of us. to solve those, and resolve them s successfully for the country, the president does have to work with republicans. that's something he's had a hard time doing in his first term, and now it appears he doesn't want to work with them at all. and that's too bad. this isn't 2009. he doesn't have overwhelming majorities in both houses. to get something done, he'll have to bring a republican house on board to work with him, just like bill clinton did, it's not that hard to do. and he's going to have to work with a closely divided senate. so honestly, so far, we haven't seen much in terms of that tone or attitude. i'm hopeful we'll see a shift tonight, but frankly, i'm prepare
